With respect to India, its estimated 150,000 people from other countries travel to India to get a medical procedure done. With economic turbulence and rising healthcare procedure costs around the world, developing countries such as India offer and opportunity for high quality healthcare at much lower costs. The success stories and monetary benefits has spawned the trend of Medical tourism.

Some of the common medical procedures that draws a lot of patients from abroad are heart Surgeries, liver Transplants, gastro Surgeries, Neuro Surgeries, Hip and Knee Replacement and many more.

The initiation process:

The process begins with the patient or the person enquiring contacting a medical tourism provider. And the second step is the analysis of medical reports. A detailed medical report with the nature of condition to be treated is acquired and the opinion of a doctor is obtained. Further information may also be required. Once opinions of certified physicians are obtained the patient is briefed on the type of treatment. Once the patient is clear on the medical procedures other factors such as expenditure, hospital choices, tourist destinations, and duration of stay and other miscellaneous are finalized, consent bonds are signed and the patient is provided with letters of recommendation medical visa, which is obtained via the patient’s homeland embassy. There is a mediator who is dedicated to the patient who takes care of all needs during the medical tour.
